  • Notes
    • With the coming of the Civil War, Frank Rockefeller would enlist into the Union army at the age of 16 as a Private in Co. A of the 7th Ohio Infantry.

He would be wounded twice during the war, the second wound effectively sending him home for the until war's end. The younger brother of John D. Rockefeller, Frank soon started to dislike his brother because of his tremendous wealth.

In 1870, he joined with his father-in-law, William Scofield, to form the Pioneer Oil Works, which would become a rival to John's Standard Oil Co.

Pioneer Oil Works was quickly bought out by Standard Oil. Constantly in bankruptcy and having to be saved by his brothers, his dislike for John grew to the point where he would time and time again testify against him and Standard Oil.

Frank died in 1917 and chose to be buried outside of the Rockefeller family plot.
