"Mrs. Rhoda Whitson, widow of John Whitson, of Melville, died Tuesday at the home of her son, Alonzo Whitson, with whom she had resided since the death of her husband. Mrs. Whitson's death was the result of paralysis, which affected her some three months ago.

She was 85 years old and was born at Manetto Hill, the daughter of Evert Van Sise & Dorothy Van Nostrand. Most of her life was passed at Melville, where she won many friends by her kind disposition.

In her immediate family she leaves one daughter, Mrs. F.A. Baylis & one son, Alonzo P. Whitson. Two brothers & one sister survive, Elbert Van Sise of Brooklyn, Martin Van Sise of Ozone Park & Mrs. George Hubbs of Farmingdale.

Funeral services were held at the Whitson home (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. A.S. Haggerty officiating & the interment was at the Methodist churchyard at Melville, near her home."
